Dr. Mike Ormerod
Dr. Michael Ormerod worked as a research scientist at the Institute of Cancer Research, London, for 25 years. Since 1992, he has been self-employed as a research consultant and trainer. His major research interests are flow cytometry, in particular its application to cancer research and the mechanism of action of cytotoxic drugs. For the last 18 years, he has run the Royal Microscopical Society's Course on Flow Cytometry in the UK. He runs the world's only Distance Learning Course on Flow Cytometry for the Virtual School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Ulster. He has organized and/or taught on courses and workshops on flow cytometry in centers world-wide (venues include, UK, Hong Kong, Australia, Turkey, Egypt, Portugal, Germany, South Africa, USA and India). He is a member of the Editorial Boards of Cytometry and the Journal of Immunological Methods.
Lectures
Apoptosis
The lecture will describe the various flow cytometric methods used to study features of the apoptotic cascade and also to measure the number of apoptotic cells in a sample.
Proliferation
Flow cytometric analysis of cell cycle progression and proliferation is of major interest in tumor cell biology. This lecture will focus on various methods used for the study of cell proliferation by flow cytometry.
Lab
Dr. Ormerod will demonstrate the use of flow cytometry for monitoring apoptosis.
